Stonewall Uprising: A Reflection on LGBTQ+ History and Activism

October 18 @ 12:15 pm - 2:15 pm

As political movements increasingly oppose individual rights and freedoms, it is deeply concerning that, despite the progress made, queer people across diverse demographics remain four times more likely to be victims of violence in America. For these reasons and more, we believe it is crucial to look back on our history, to learn from those who came before us and the struggles they faced and overcame, particularly through the lens of the Stonewall Uprising.

During this panel, participants will share firsthand accounts of their experiences before, during, and after Stonewall. What was life like in New York before the uprising? How did different identities intersect at that time, and what factors led to the riots? What was it like to witness the events, and what legacies have emerged in the post-Stonewall era? Our panelists will explore these questions through their personal and community experiences, while also reflecting on the past, present, and future of LGBTQ+ rights.
