The BC Against Cancer Team from the Brooklyn College Cancer Center (CommUnity Outreach, Research, and Education [BCCC-CURE]) hit the Coney Island boardwalk once again for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event on Oct. 27. About 45 Brooklyn College community members participated in the event, which has been held for three straigth years and raises awareness and support for breast cancer research. The event was organized by the American Cancer Society (ACS) and was led by the BCCC-CURE and the Brooklyn College Health Programs/Immunizations Requirement Office. BCCC-CURE helped the ACS raise $420,000 overall. The event was just one of many that the center does to promote research and spread awareness. “At the Brooklyn College Cancer Center, researchers and students work together in the fight against breast cancer in our labs,” said Ana Bartolomé, operations manager/community outreach coordinator for BCCC-CURE. “This latest event brought awareness and resources to the Brooklyn community and also focused on women of color because the breast cancer mortality rates are disproportionately higher in that group.”
