Screening of “La Chispa en Pradera” and Talk with Filmmaker Bernardita Llanos

Join the Center for the Study of Women and Society for a captivating screening of La Chispa En La Pradera (Spark in the Meadow), a powerful documentary that dives into the feminist movement that swept through Chilean universities in 2018.

Following the screening, stay for a Q&A session with the filmmaker, Bernardita Llanos, a Professor of Spanish and Women’s and Gender Studies at Brooklyn College. This event marks her second short documentary, and you won’t want to miss the insights she’ll share about the intersection of activism, gender, and education.

The screening will take place in the Segal Theatre at the Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue and is co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Women and Society and Film and Media Cultures at the Graduate Center.

Llanos, a renowned expert on Latin American women writers, documentary filmmaking, and feminist artivism, will bring a wealth of knowledge to the conversation. Her research bridges the worlds of literature, visual storytelling, and gender studies, focusing on how women’s voices and experiences shape culture.

Llanos is the author of Passionate Subjects/Split Subjects in Twentieth Century: Narrative in Chile: Brunet, Bombal, and Eltit and has contributed to several critically acclaimed publications, including Poner el cuerpo.
