As a public accounting and business management major, you will meet the requirements for New York State licensure as a certified public accountant while also completing a program in business management. You will learn accounting and analytical skills that will prepare you for positions in accounting and business.

Major Description
This 150-credit undergraduate program is designed to allow students to meet the requirements of New York State for licensure as a CPA, while also obtaining additional exposure to business management. New York State currently requires candidates for licensure to have a total of 150 credits, including 33 credits in accounting and tax (including financial accounting and reporting, cost or managerial accounting, taxation, and auditing and attestation services) as well as 36 additional credits in business.
In addition to this program, students who are interested in accounting careers should consider the B.B.A. in general accounting, and a combination of the B.B.A. in general accounting and the M.S. in accounting.

Students must take additional courses to complete the 150-credit requirement.
Students are urged to take all Brooklyn College core courses in their first four years, so as to retain the option of later changing paths to obtain a 120 credit B.B.A. in general accounting and an M.S. in accounting.
Highly recommended elective: Accounting 3360 or Business 3360. Students with a GPA of 3.00 or better may also take graduate courses, such as courses in financial statement analysis or controllership, in their fourth or fifth years, with permission.
Students planning to take the Tax Compliance and Planning portion of the C.P.A. examination are advised to take Accounting 4121.
Students planning advanced study in economics and finance, or doctoral study, are advised to take Business 3410 or Economics 3410 or Mathematics 1201, which provide fundamental mathematical tools of economics, including calculus.
Students must achieve a grade of C or better in each of the required Accounting courses. No Accounting course may be taken more than three times by a student in this major. Students taking a specific Accounting course three times without achieving a grade of C or better (this includes INC, W, WN, WU, WF, and ABS grades), may not take that course again and will not be permitted to complete this major or any other accounting major at Brooklyn College.
Writing-Intensive Requirement: Students are required to take at least one writing-intensive course (W course).
