The 2012 Conservatory Concerto Competition was held on Friday, Feb. 10, and highlighted the conservatory’s great talent. After hearing many stunning and exciting performances, the judges — Professors Ji Hyun Son, James Bowyer, and Alexie Lewis — chose violinist Alma Ramirez as the winner. Ramirez’s beautiful tone won her accolades from Associate Professor George Rothman, who oversaw the competition and will conduct the Conservatory Orchestra on Saturday, May 5, when they will perform the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor with Ramirez as soloist. The other fine contestants were: Ariane Alexander, viola Sean Ormiston, bass Pan Yuen, clarinet Angela Sutton, piano Johanna Aguilera, clarinet Brian Lam, piano Kyulee Seo, violin Marcel Krasner, cello Rothman offered a hearty congratulations to all the competitors for their fine performances.
