Program Overview

While a bachelor’s degree suffices for many entry-level accounting and auditing roles, a master’s degree in accounting will help advance your career as an accountant. Designed for those who have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, this AACSB-accredited program qualifies you for New York State certified public accountant (CPA) licensure. Fully online and asynchronous, the program can be completed in one year on your own schedule. This program will provide you with a valuable credential and bolster your analytical and financial acumen.

Program Requirements (30 Credits)

This program is registered with the New York State Education Department as meeting the 150-semester-hour requirement for CPA candidates. Students who complete the program may sit for the CPA examination. Coursework emphasizes asset valuation and related problems of enterprise reporting, tax research and planning, comptrollership and managerial accounting, contemporary accounting topics, and accounting requirements of the SEC. Applicants must have course work equivalent to the B.S. in accounting at Brooklyn College.

This 30-credit graduate program in accounting requires students to complete the following courses online.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants must have earned a 120-credit bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 15 credits in accounting and 24 credits in general business electives.

  • Fall Application Deadline: July 15, rolling admissions
  • Spring Application Deadline: December 15, rolling admissions

Supporting Documents for Matriculation

Submit the following documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions:

  1. Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants who earned a bachelor’s degree outside the United States need to submit a course-by-course international transcript evaluation. See Graduate Admissions for more information.
  2. Two letters of recommendation.

Required Tests

  • No GMAT required.
  • Applicants from non-English speaking countries outside of the U.S. must prove English proficiency: TOEFL—79, IELTS—6.5, PTE—58–63, Duolingo—105–160.

Nondegree Applicants

This program accepts nondegree applicants. Nondegree applicants can only take a maximum of 12 graduate credits at Brooklyn College. If you wish to take more than 12 graduate credits at Brooklyn College, you are required to apply for the M.S. in Accounting degree program and meet all of the requirements of degree seeking applicants
