Glomani Bravo-López is a senior and business and finance major. He was a marine from 2005 to 2009 and did two tours in Iraq. He started at Brooklyn College in 2013. On Mon. Nov. 10, the college honored him and the more than 300 other veteran students on campus, as well as those who are a part of the larger Brooklyn College community with the annual Veteran’s Day luncheon, held in the Penthouse of the Student Center. The event was sponsored by the Veterans Affairs and Counseling Center and the Veteran’s Students’ Organization (VSO). “It’s an opportunity to honor the veteran population here at Brooklyn College and the faculty that help us every single day,” said Bravo-López, who is also the president of the VSO. “I also have friends that didn’t make it back, and it’s an opportunity for me to observe their memory.” The keynote speaker was retired Major Miguel Reece, who served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 30 years and who recently authored the book, The Disabled Veteran’s Story: The Sacrifices of Our Veterans and Their Families (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2014). Bravo-López said he appreciated Reece coming to the event. He’s read the first chapter in the book and describes it as “pretty awesome.” “It’s a great read for veterans and civilians alike,” Bravo-López said.
