By declaring a minor in actuarial and financial mathematics, you will obtain a solid grounding in probability, statistics, and finance within a liberal arts framework. With courses in computer science, economics, mathematics, and statistics, you’ll be introduced to key analytical, statistical, and financial techniques that will refine your ability to understand, quantify, evaluate, and manage risk.
A foundation in financial and actuarial mathematics is a strong gateway to opportunities in a range of industries, including insurance (life, property, casualty, health), finance (pension management, pricing of financial instruments), and risk management (modeling climate change, managing public social programs).

At least 12 credits from the following list of advanced electives in Mathematics: Mathematics 2601, 3202, 3801, 3802, 4601.
All courses offered to satisfy the requirements for a minor in actuarial and financial mathematics must be completed at Brooklyn College with a grade of C-or higher.
Actuarial and financial mathematics minors should check the Bulletin to see which of these courses are sequenced together, and consult with department counselors for recommendations.
