Program Overview

By declaring an interdisciplinary minor in law and society, you will learn how social forces influence the legal system and how the law affects society from a sociological perspective. You will choose courses from a variety of disciplines, such as anthropology, classics, political science, and Africana studies.

A minor allows you to make interdisciplinary connections and expand your academic studies beyond your major. With a minor in law and society, you can set yourself apart as a candidate in a variety of professions, particularly in the legal profession, the judiciary, legislatures, administrative agencies, and nonprofits with a focus on law.

Minor Requirements (12 Credits)

Twelve credits chosen from the courses of two or more departments as specified below. Each course must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

  • Africana Studies 3330, 3331; Anthropology 3160, 3162; Classics 3234; Political Science 3120, 3121, 3130, 3123, 3122, 3240; Sociology 3503, 3504.
  • Courses in anthropology presented for this minor may not be counted toward the anthropology major.
  • Courses in political science presented for this minor may not be counted toward the political science major.
  • Courses in sociology presented for this minor may not be counted toward the sociology major.
