The 39th Annual Brooklyn College Undergraduate Film Festival will feature the accomplishments of the college’s undergraduate film students through an online event June 24–25 and will be free and open to the public.

Faculty, alumni, and invited industry professionals will judge 48 films, including experimental and documentary works. Awards and prizes will be provided by a wide range of industry sponsors, among them Film Forum, BAM, Abel Cine, Canon, Xeno Lights, AVID, Gotham Sound, Entertainment Partners, NYWIFT, Pond 5.

Annette Danto, professor and department chair of the Brooklyn College Film Department, is proud of the Class of 2021, which graduated 105 students this year.

“Following the lead of last year’s students who also dealt with COVID-19 restrictions and made terrific films, Brooklyn College film students demonstrated resilience, ingenuity, and great determination as they adapted to a myriad of pandemic health and safety guidelines and successfully completed some truly remarkable short films,” Danto said. “I am thrilled they will be sharing their incredible work with the world.”

About the Brooklyn College Film Department

Since 1974, the Brooklyn College Film Department has been one of the most popular departments at Brooklyn College. The undergraduate program is designed for students who are passionate about filmmaking and film studies. As part of Brooklyn College, our undergraduates get a first-class liberal arts education while engaging in filmmaking from their first semester onwards. Through a rigorous curriculum, using state of the art gear and facilities, the department advances “learning by doing” while grounding students in the fundamentals of storytelling. Collaborative, hands-on exercises and projects are complemented by courses in film studies.
