The Physics Department from the School of Natural and Behavioral Sciences was recently awarded a grant in the 2023 cycle of the CUNY College Completion Innovation Fund (CCIF), a first for the department. The project will trial the use of two methods to enhance learning and on-time completion of introductory physics courses: near-peer workshops specifically tailored to our two introductory physics courses and offered concurrently with the courses; hands-on mini demonstrations for students to use within the traditional lecture setting, in order to remove the artificial divide between “lecture” and “lab” classes that are normally held at separate times, giving students more rapid practical exposure to concepts as they are introduced in the class.
