Are you curious?
Do you want to understand the world you live in?
Do you want to help solve some of the problems in your world?
Then you should be a scientist!
Scientists investigate our world and try to solve its problems by asking questions, collecting information, examining that information, and then explaining their conclusions. They can fly to outer space, develop the largest and the tiniest machines, and create the newest technologies. Just take a look at the world around you. Chances are, many of the things that you use were discovered or invented by a scientist—from the smallest, lightest cell phones or the most energy-efficient cars to the coolest video game technology.
They also help to make our world better and safer. For instance, scientists discover the best ways to treat and stop cancer and other diseases, to mend a broken bone, and to keep us healthy by creating vaccines to prevent diseases. They make sure that our drinking water is safe, that our environment is protected, and that we have the right foods to eat.
Scientists don’t only look at the world we live in; they also look at our past. Do you ever wonder what life was like in the 13th century B.C.? Scientists do. Scientists also help to solve crimes—the ones that happened thousands of years ago and the ones that happen now.
Scientists are pretty amazing!
So talk to your teachers and your family, visit your library, and surf the web. Become curious. See? You’re becoming a scientist already!
