The mission of the Immigrant Student Success Office (ISSO) is to recruit, enroll, and retain students, with an emphasis on new immigrants, such as students granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) who identify with the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAMERS), and first-generation students by providing the necessary academic and non-academic support to ensure graduation from Brooklyn College in a timely manner.

ISSO provides immigration-informed career counseling to undocumented students who may not be able to sit for state or national licensing or certification exams. Students will be informed of their options before choosing a major. Paths to professional success and gainful employment, which take into account an uncertain immigration status, will be provided by immigration-informed career counselors and by invited mentors who achieved professional goals despite having an uncertain immigration status.
Our vision is to provide mentoring in addition to creating a safe space, where all students from the Brooklyn College community are treated with respect and dignity, using an integrated/holistic network of resources to reach the desired goal of completing a college degree armed with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to obtain successful careers.

Having one of the most diverse campuses in the country comes with its unique set of responsibilities, which the college embraces. One way Brooklyn College supports its incredibly diverse student body is through its Immigrant Student Success Office (ISSO), which was launched in 2019 to support immigrant and first-generation students through an array of programs and resources. News 12 highlighted both the college’s holding U.S. News & World Report’s top “Diversity Index Rating” in the region for the fifth straight year and ISSO on September 28, 2022.
