Professor Constantin Cranganu Professor Constantin Cranganu is a two-time winner of the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship, with his most recent award given for the 2018–19 academic year. Between November 2018 and March 2019, Professor Cranganu spent the first part of his second Fulbright Fellowship at Al. I. Cuza University of Iasi, Romania, working with colleagues on innovative ways to estimate the total organic carbon (TOC) of source rocks from two Romanian geologic provinces (Moldova and Dobrogea). To improve the TOC estimations of source rocks, Cranganu and his colleagues used for the first time three artificial intelligent approaches: Self Organizing Maps (SOM), Genetic Algorithms (GA), and Support Vector Machines (SVM). In addition, Cranganu contributed four chapters for a monograph, titled Romania—Mineral Resources of Romania, Vol. III Energy Resources. Also, he was invited by the Department of Agriculture of Romania to contribute a chapter to another monograph, titled Agriculture Concepts and Operational Instruments, Documentary Book 4. Additionally, he was invited by ROPEPCA (Romanian Petroleum Exploration & Production Companies Association) to deliver a one-hour talk, “Petroleum—Economic Values and Moral Values,” to its participants at the association’s winter 2018 meeting.
