Black History Month: Textile Arts Workshop

February 1 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join Myrah Brown Green for a one-hour textile arts workshop focused on Adinkra symbols, which represent concepts, proverbs, and aphorisms. Learn about and choose a symbol that is meaningful to you, and Green will guide you through creating a hand-stitched symbol to take home after the workshop. Assistant Professor Simanique Moody, Linguistics, will provide a brief introduction to semiotics (the study of signs, symbols, and sign systems, and how they communicate meaning) to set the context for the workshop.

Co-organized by the Marine Park Alliance and Simanique Moody, this event will be held at the Carmine Carro Community Center (3000 Fillmore Avenue, Brooklyn, NY) and is open to the Brooklyn College community and the general public.
