Classroom Communities: Using Restorative Practices to Build Collegiality and Trust

March 21 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

To have difficult conversations with students and offer support when necessary, it’s first crucial to build a solid foundation of trust. Restorative and transformative justice is a philosophy and set of practices aimed to centering student well-being and creating positive social relationships.

Join Graciela Elizalde-Utnick, Beth Ferholt, and Wayne Reed (School of Education) to discuss restorative pedagogies and their use as an approach to teaching/learning that seeks to remedy persistent patterns of punitive and exclusionary school-based practices that harm us all, by implementing thoughtful and inclusive techniques in the classroom to support learning for both teachers and students.

The School of Education has trained students, staff, and faculty in restorative/transformative justice for several years and has found the approach effective and practical.
