Heightened Scrutiny Film Screening With Sam Feder, Featuring a Short Film by June Jung

March 25 @ 9:30 am - 2:15 pm

Join us for a special screening and discussion of Heightened Scrutiny, the latest documentary by Sam Feder (Disclosure), featuring an in-person discussion with the director. The event will open with a screening of the short film These Kids Don’t Get It, Ma, with filmmaker June Jung in attendance for a brief discussion.

Heightened Scrutiny follows Chase Strangio, ACLU attorney and the first openly trans person to argue before the Supreme Court, as he takes on a landmark legal battle to overturn Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth (United States v. Skrmetti).

In These Kids Don’t Get It, Ma, a young trans woman calls her mother for help translating her new poem into Korean. “You don’t usually translate,” her mother asks. “Why this one?” She responds: “I don’t know. So you can read it?” A deeply personal and poetic reflection on language, identity, and the unspoken.

Don’t miss this critical conversation at the intersection of law, media, and trans rights, with the opportunity to engage directly with the filmmakers.

This event is an academic screening and open only to Brooklyn College students, staff, and faculty. It is made possible in collaboration with the Film Department, Wolfe Institute for the Humanities, Brooklyn College chapter of PSC-CUNY, Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Women’s Center, and We Stand Against Hate.
