Rainbow Railroad: LGBTQI+ People Seek Asylum in a World Full of Hatred

October 21 @ 2:15 pm - 3:30 pm

Approximately 70 countries around the world criminalize LGBTQI+ people. We explore the experiences of those who seek political asylum based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics. Since 2006, Rainbow Railroad has helped more than 13,000 LGBTQI+ individuals find safety through emergency relocation, crisis response, cash assistance, and other forms of assistance. In 2023 alone, it received 15,000 requests from those living in danger. Join us and hear the voices of those who have sought asylum and those who have guided them on the Rainbow Railroad.

Speakers: Kathryn Hampton, senior adviser, U.S. Strategy at Rainbow Railroad; Kendra Frith, Rainbow Railroad’s senior engagement officer; and Samuel Wairiuko, a human rights activist and economics student based in New York.
