Ten years ago, Brooklyn College faculty founded the Brooklyn College Listening Project (BCLP) to teach their students oral history skills and to examine Brooklyn, its people, and their lives. Hundreds of Brooklyn College students have interviewed family, friends, neighbors, and strangers who have shared stories of work, immigration, family, neighborhood, struggle, political activism, strength, and hope. Now the BCLP Archives, students’ work and the voices of the people they have interviewed are finally open to the public.
Join us for a talk by Nyssa Chow, oral historian, multidisciplinary artist and writer, and core faculty at the Oral History Master’s Program at Columbia University, and a panel presentation by students and their interviewees who will share their stories and discuss the experience of interviewing and being interviewed.
