The objective of this workshop, led by Kristina Cordero (Modern Languages and Literatures), is to get acquainted with generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools and think about how we may use them in teaching, assessing, and researching in the humanities. We’ll get some definitions down about what generative AI is (and what it’s not), do some hands-on exploration with generative AI tools, and spend time in breakout rooms to talk about what issues it brings up with respect to our teaching, evaluating, and research. Participants will emerge with a deeper understanding of the limitations and risks of generative AI in higher education as well as its potential for complementing and enhancing our human intelligence and goals in the university landscape.
