Understanding Better: Unpacking Gender 101

The CUNY Graduate Center Compliance and Diversity Office will host a series of workshops in collaboration with The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault called “Understanding Better.” This series will delve into various topics related to gender-based violence and address issues faced by individuals with differing identities and life experiences. Through an intersectional approach, this workshop will dive into the gender spectrum, gender-affirming language, and debunking false information around gender identities. Part 1 will unpack common gender norms in an interactive and approachable way. Part 2 will define different identities on the gender spectrum and debunk commonly held myths about gender. Participants will leave this workshop with skills and best practices in creating gender-affirming educational environments, new gender-affirming vocabulary, and resources for further exploration of this topic.
