No matter the discipline, a visual approach to teaching can help students learn better. Professor Jerry Krase (Department of Sociology) will lead an illustrated conversation about integrating visual materials and approaches into teaching in the classroom and out in the field. In his many years at Brooklyn College, Krase has employed collaborative study, participant observation, and visual ethnography to encourage learning. In this workshop, he will discuss how film, video, photography, and drawing can be used as tools for observation. He will also discuss creative ways of using visual resources such as image archives, movies, and television to help students better understand where they and their neighbors live and work.
