Brooklyn College Garden
Brooklyn College Garden is available to all college students, staff, faculty, organizations, alumni, retirees, and the community at large. As voluntary participants, gardeners agree to comply with the following rules to help everyone have an enjoyable and prosperous garden.
Mission
The Brooklyn College Garden brings together the college and neighboring communities to practice and learn about sustainable gardening for urban environments, share gardening experiences, and foster curiosity, creativity, and a sense of community. The garden welcomes everyone regardless of race, sex, gender, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, nationality, or religion.

Membership
Brooklyn College students, staff, and faculty, as well as individuals who live in the neighborhood immediately surrounding the college, are eligible to apply for a garden plot. All individuals requesting plots or interested in participating in other garden tasks, such as composting, should complete an application form each year with full contact information. Send us an email if you would like more information or to request an application.

Volunteer
Brooklyn College Garden welcomes volunteers—individuals, school groups, and business groups— throughout the year. Volunteering is a good opportunity to learn about different aspects of sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship. Volunteers mostly help with maintenance tasks such as weeding, mulching, and turning or sifting compost.
To find out more or to add your name to the volunteer list and receive regular updates, email the garden coordinator.
Composting
Brooklyn College Garden is proud to offer organics recycling and composting to our community. Our three-bin composting system is managed by our garden coordinator, composting members, and volunteers who work together to weigh incoming organics, turn the compost piles, and sift finished compost. If you’re interested in joining the garden’s composting efforts, email us.
