Other Ways to Impress Employers

Here are a few résumé builders that can also serve as networking opportunities for the future:

  • Take courses that can get you a jumpstart in college, especially if they can be applied for college credit. This can become relevant knowledge for fields you are interested in, or can be useful for progressing through your degree faster or having more time in college. Courses with accreditation such as AP/College Now can greatly impact your schedule early on.
  • High school can be an excellent time to find part-time/student employment. Some opportunities are seasonal, so you would be working when classes are not in session. The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) employs students with working papers.
  • Find internships that are open to high school students. These serve as an excellent chance to explore potential career possibilities. Additionally, you will receive experience and a possible reference that you can use for different jobs moving forward.
