Security and CCTV Camera Guidelines

The following criteria must be satisfied prior to any cameras being installed in any areas on/ or around the Brooklyn College campus or Brooklyn College property:

• All CCTV cameras and equipment must be authorized (in writing) by the director of Public Safety Department, or designee. Any CCTV cameras or equipment that are not authorized by the director of Public Safety Department, or designee, will be removed immediately.
• The Public Safety Department must have unrestricted access to all CCTV systems and recordings at all times (including stand-alone digital video recording systems).
• No surveillance or security cameras will be positioned inside of any restrooms, or in a direction that allows a view of the inside of a restroom.
• No surveillance or security cameras will be placed inside private offices, or in a direction that allows a view of the inside of a private office.
• No surveillance or security cameras will be placed inside locker rooms, changing rooms, and showers, or in a direction that allows a view of the inside of locker rooms, changing rooms, and showers.
• No surveillance or security cameras will be placed inside a classroom unless it is conspicuously placed for the purpose of security, and authorized by the director of public safety, or designee.
• No surveillance or security cameras will be placed in any area on, or around, the Brooklyn College campus or property inconspicuously except by the Public Safety Department engaged in the conduct of lawfully authorized duties.
