Applicants who have been identified as ESL by the CUNY admissions process and who do not meet the CUNY proficiency requirements in English will be required to take the Accuplacer ESL Tests. The results of the tests will be used to determine proficiency and placement in the most suitable English classes based on skill level.
Accuplacer ESL is a computer adaptive test designed for English-language learners. It consists of five components. A composite score of 105 or higher will meet the CUNY English proficiency requirements. Students who meet this cut score will be eligible to enroll in English 1010. Students with a composite score below 105 will be placed into ESLR 1007 or referred to a CUNY Language Immersion Program.
A score report will be available for students upon completion of the tests.
Accommodations based on disabilities will be granted to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Students who wish to request such accommodations should consult with the Center for Student Disability Services prior to scheduling their test.
